Canary Island Banana
The “Canary Islands Banana PGI” refers to the banana grown in the Canary Islands (Spain) that has been recognized as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). The islands’ volcanic soil, along with the incredible climatic conditions, influence the unique characteristics of this banana, such as its sweet flavor and soft texture. It is characterized by its greater degree of ripeness due to the fact that it spends much longer ripening on the plant than the traditional banana. It contains more water and is much juicier and tastier than the traditional banana. It is distinguished by its sweet and aromatic flavor, smaller size, and yellow skin with brown spots when ripe, compared to other banana varieties. It is rich in potassium, magnesium, fiber, and vitamins, especially B6 and C. Its flesh is white and soft.
